The hosts of Video Droogs met over a decade ago, behind of the counter of their local video store in, literally, The Friendliest Small Town in America. While slinging VHS & DVD rentals and labeling the shit out of everything, Ben & Evelyn mostly took time out of each shift to nurse their obsession with the screen. It was exactly like a Kevin Smith film but without the cringey dialogue and gay life lessons. Though the video store has since closed down, the reel, the tape, the disc, still remain king in the hearts of these two clerks. We can't stop talking about movies. Luckily for the rest of you, the modern era allows us to bring the conversation to you.
There's no theme for this podcast, but we do tend to swing toward horror and sci-fi. The Video Droogs are just as likely to view and discuss a flick only recently released as they are to pull something out of the vault. We don't like to discriminate. We just like movies. Like all insufferable film critics, we do hold a reverence for the Criterion Collection and the directorial greats, but we're not so snobby that we can't sit down with pleasure and gratitude to an Andy Sidaris marathon. It's like eating filet mignon with a two liter of grape Shasta. Hard Ticket to Hawaii is the filet mignon in this metaphor. |
